he Ramu family in Dardagny can be traced back to the late fourteenth century. They owned a vineyard well before the « Escalade ». The estate today is situated on the hillside next to the Donzelle, and on the hillside that overlooks the Chateau in Dardagny. Edmond Ramu, who took over the estate in 1925, was innovative. He introduced to Switzerland a new type of pruning called « guyot », whereby the vine is trained along a wire. He also experimented with different red and white hybrid grape varieties. He was a passionate producer of quality wines. He planted the first Gamay and Pinot Noir in 1936. Edmond Ramu won many prizes for his wine, and gold medals in 1954 in Lucerne and 1964 in Lausanne. harles Ramu – Caccia took over the Estate in 1955 and enlarged it to its present day 18 hectares. He introduced, the Aligoté, the Pinot Gris, the Gewurtzraminer and the Muscat. He won three gold medals at the exhibition in Ljubljana in 1980 for his Chasselas, his Pinot Gris and his Gewürtzraminer. In 1981, he added another Gold medal to his collection for his Gewürtzraminer. laude Ramu started running the estate in 1982. The wine is now produced and and bottled on the Estate. He named the Estate « Domaine du Centaure » and commissioned the artist Serge Diakonoff to design the labels for all his new wines. |
